King and Emperor Penguins have only one egg.
They hold the egg on their feet to protect it and warm it, carrying it constantly until it hatches. Even after hatching, the baby remains on the parents' feet for as long as their size permits. Throughout the early fragile stages of life, one parent keeps the chick warm while the other is at sea gathering food.
